People burn out trying to take in a new area.
For a nice break from the mad whirl of trying to see the whole area in a short time, I suggest you pause to catch your breath, pick up a nice sandwich and chips, and a cool drink, oh, and a cookie, and sit at a picnic table in one or more of our lovely parks for a leisurely lunch.
A few, and there are more, for sure:

IMHO, I wouldn't advise anyone from out of town to go walking around the area around the Durham ballpark unless they really knew where they were going.
It's not so bad on game nights because there are huge crowds all around. Best (to the OP) place to park is to get off 147/Durham Freway on the Roxboro Rd exit but continue on the service road across Roxboro (going straight ahead) around the Amer Tobacco Complex to where the Ford dealer is, and park somewhere around the car place. It's not a bad walk (again, there will be tons of people around both coming and going) and it will be easy getting out.

Are you serious? When's the last time you were in Durham? Its not dangerous around the ballpark at all. I'd be more scared walking around Brentwood (and I used to live there). You have to get pretty far from the ballpark to get anywhere close to danger. Plus the prison is right next door, so the hoods won't be hanging out too close by.
3 days. You can see whatever there is to see in the triangle. Depends on your interests. You can see downtown in an hr on foot. The art museum is nice and air conditioned! Duke campus/gardens are nice. Franklin street in Chapel hill might be worthy.
Hmm...I've gone to the Bulls area many, many times and have never once felt unsafe! We were there last night in fact. We saw Beauty and the Beast at DPAC and walked to Mellow Mushroom for dinner. There was a game last night, restaraunts were full, people were happy. We walked along the water features with the kids.
For the OP, I'd check to see what Koka Booth is doing that weekend. That is a gorgeous amiptheater and I can't get enough of the place. If they are doing something, dont' be afraid of lawn seats. We get those all the time, perfect outing for a warm summer night.
Thanks for all the tips. I'll be printing this thread before we leave and taking it with me, lots of great suggestions!
We'll be getting there late Friday night, around 11pm so Friday is kind of lost...but definitely will start up early Saturday.
Just wanted to thank everyone for their tips, we went to Raleigh last weekend and we loved it, got to see a lot thanks to the suggestions!
Awesome! I would love to hear about what you saw/did!
