As I stated in another post, I may be moving to the Raleigh area. Just wondering about the weather. Where I am here in Michigan, we get about 3 1/2 4 months of good weather. By that, I mean where you can enjoy being outside without shivering. We get about 18-25 inches of snow a year. And, it gets as cold as -5, which can last for a week or more. And, throughout the year, we are famous for our lack of sun. How about down there? I know there are the 4 seasons down there, but I'm hoping winter isn't a killer like it is here....lol.

Winter lasts about 5 minutes here...at least compared to what you're used to. I've lived here 10 years and I think we have gotten snow (not including a ddusting that melts within 24 hours) 3 times. We occassionally get lows in the teens but that is generally no more than a couple weeks total. I'm not basing this on fact, just my feelings about it which may or may not be accurate. Temps in Jan/Feb stay around 35-45 in the daytime. Fall is long and you can get temps in the 60's/70's all the way through December! Not consistently, mind you, just that occasional beautiful day after cooler temps in the 50's.

We get some snow here - not like Michigan. But, we have no way to deal with it; few plows, salt trucks, etc. So when it snows it's a DISASTER - even if it's just a quarter of a inch.

The flipside is the heat and humidity in the summer. It can be quite unbearable.

Climate of Raleigh, NC.

That "23 days in July and August over 90 with relative humidity around 75%" is the killer.

Yeah, I have heard about areas not getting much snow, and it paralyzes them due to lack of removal ability. Up here, we trudge to work in 9 inches of the stuff.

The humidity is a killer a lot here in the summer to. It can get way up there.

SE Michigan humidity is NOTHING compared to it down here! I moved to NC from Ann Arbor about 3 years ago, and what I felt was bad humidity has sooooo been trumped by NC humidity!

The great thing about it down here is when it snows (even a couple of inches), the world stops. My first year here I drove through a snow storm to get to work. It wasn't that bad....took me about 10 minutes longer than usual.

I got to work and the door was locked and no one had shown up.

If you compare the humidity levels, there isn't a lot of difference from Detroit compared to Raleigh.
