My family and I are thinking about moving to Rapid City early next year. We are wondering if anyone knew what the average pay for vehicle registration is for a 2001 Chevy Cavalier, 1998 Chevy Camaro and a 1991 Chevy Camaro. I live in Idaho now and we average about $60.00 a year on each car and that is with personilzed plates. The reason I ask is because we were looking into moving to Colorado to be closer to my dad and it was in the hundreds just for one vehicle a year!!!!!!! And I am not willing to pay that much!
Thanks for any input, Mandy

HI. You'd probably pay in the area of $27 (?) for each vehicle. They do charge more if your car is newer then five years old so you may want to be aware of that.

you can call pennington county directly and give them your VIN numbers - they will provide you exact amounts - Im in Meade county -just ouside Rapid and my new tahoe (07) will be 65 for title and plates (of course not including new car purchase tax)

My car was $47 to register and get plates. I heard that Colorado and California are OUTRAGEOUS when it comes to licensing a vehicle and they charge hundreds more for an SUV than a regular car. South Dakota's not like that. It's INCREDIBLY cheap!

Licenses are very reasonable for vehicles. Most vehicles would be in the upper $30 to $50 range. The newer vehicles would be a tad more. My 06 Pontiac Grand Prix was around $50, but I had a 94 Pontiac Grand Prix and license was around $38 (a couple years ago).

South Dakota is inexpensive compared to other states. I understand that Iowa is a little higher and Minnesota and Nebraska are both very expensive for car licensing compared to South Dakota. The cheap licensing is nice and we still get nice-looking licence plates (especially the current ones).
