Wow, a lot of threads about Rapid City... guess that's the place to be! Anyway, I'm looking around for a new place to call home, and am curious about Rapid City. Are there Indian and Thai restaurants? Is there a mircobrewery or brewpub? I'm basically looking for a place with all the benefits of a college town (walkable neighborhoods, ethnic restaurants, good beer).... without the downsides of a college town (snobery/elitism, drunken frat boys, expensive apartments) Thanks!
Curry Masala is an Indian restaurant in Baken Park. I have eaten there a few times and I thought it was delicious. I was not sure if they would last long, but they've been there for about 3 years now. Khourry's Mediterranean Cuisine is also on the westside and they feature foods like falafels, shwarma, and other mid-eastern cuisines. I love that place too. Hana is a new Korean and sushi restaurant in Baken Park. Ichiban and Coco Palace are sushi restaurants too.
Firehouse Brewing Company is a brewery downtown and they serve great food. It's a local favorite. Prairie Berry Winery is in nearby Hill City too. Rapid City's downtown and westside is very walkable, but the entire city probably requires a car to get around in. Most major department store are in the Rushmore Mall or on the northside.
No we don't have a HuHot but we have The Mongolian Grill on LaCrosse Street. It's also very popular. You get to pile on your own meats, veggies, and sauces then you give it to the cook who grills it in front of you on a hibachi. Pretty fun!
If you are trying to stay away from the college crowd, there are certain bars college students frequent, oddly enough the firehouse isn't one of them.
