OMG! Shakeys! That was the BEST. And Happy Joes!!! -- Barn Burners and the flying duck game!
I also remember an arcade over in the Time Square Plaza and there was a Godfather's Pizza there too. We used to go over there on lunch from Central armed with quarters to play pacman, asteroids and defender.
I saw "the Empire Strikes Back" on the big screen at the Elks.
And the Jingle for the Muchies? That was Jerry's House of pizza

Oh wow! Time Square Plaza used to have a huge clock in it that hardly ever was right so they put up a digital one. Does anyone remember when SAFEWAY was over there!?! God I nearly forgot all about that!
Carini's was THE Italian restaurant to go to and they had a violinist.

We used to get pizza before a big soccer roadtrip.

I can remember that Burger King. I have stopped there on two different occasions. I remember back in 1997 and back in 2005. I remember those two times as plain as day: the first time with my family when I was in high school and second time when meeting up with a couple friends in Spearfish and stopping to eat there at the end of the trip. Did they close the Burger King a couple years ago?

TCI Cable was the only choice for cable too and their office was a tiny building behind KMart.

Sioux Falls had two Bonanzas, which both closed in the mid 1990s and the only left to my knowledge is Yankton. The Gigglebees in SF closed a few months ago.
Going by Rapid City in the past, I can never forget going by the Rushmore Mall and past I-190 and the hill that is shortly west of there that seems like it divides the city. When I was nine, I thought that Rapid was two cities and thought it was wierd (I was used to Eastern SD where towns and cities were compact and not as spread out when considering land area.
Is Reptile Gardens still going and what was nearby by it? I was wondering if the attraction near Reptile Gardens is something related to fishes and is not Bear Country USA. I can remember not wanting to go to Reptile Gardens when I was nine because I was deafly scared of snakes and animals of that nature.

Yep Chris, those are the high ridges that split Rapid City in two. One side is the Northside-Southside and the other is the Westside. Rapid Valley is considered the Eastside. Skyline Drive runs at the top of on of those ridges. There are three of them that run as a front range.
Reptile Gardens is still a major attraction. The fish attraction you are thinking of is probably Marine Life which closed around 1995. There's a restaurant, dentist office, and furniture store where it once was.

-Piggly Wiggly in Baken Park
-Collecting green stamps and redeeming them at the store on St Joe (Antique mall now?)
-The Holiday Campground on Lacross--where the WalMart is now.
-Locals referred to Dakota Jr High school as "inner city"
(By the way, I saw DJHS yearbooks from the 80s at Country Junction Antiques if anyone is interested)
-Remember renting phones from the phone company downtown?
-St Martins Academy
-Downtown Sears, Penneys and Montgomery Wards
-As mentioned before, Daisy Dell! Their Turkey dinners and dessert pies were GREAT!
-Little Big Man Pizza buffet
-Chapel Valley was in the county, not city...and Johnson Siding seemed as far away as anyone could get
-Mr. Steak

This thread is waking up so many memories from when I was just a little kid! I can't believe half the stuff I'm reading!
I remember when we'd save soda cans and turn them in at the Can Bank down by Prairie Market. Mr. Steak was where Chili's was now and that was just about the only business on the Haines Avenue exit. Remington's was the nice restaurant and it was where La Costa is now. Econo Lodge was the coolest hotel to go to because it had a waterslide. now nearly all hotels have waterparks in them.
I can't believe no one's mentioned HAPPY CHEF yet! We had a couple of those too!

Kind of off a little bit but I remember when I used to live in Deadwood BEFORE all the Casino's came to town. I used to live right behind the grocery store there and used to play games with my brother and dad in the parking lot where F.L. Thorpe Gold used to be. We lost ALOT of balls in the creek in front of our house.....There used to be this great taffy store downtown where we would always walk and stand and watch them make taffy through the window. There was also a couple arcades that we used to go to and it seemed like the day later they were closed and casinos were opened there.....We used to go sledding down the hill just past the Hickok House, (not sure if people still do).....I also remember the Prairie Market in Rapid City, we always used to go there to get our groceries, there was also one over in Sioux Falls that we'd visit when we came out to visit family.....We moved away in '93 so I think that was when the casinos first started taking over the town, there were a few there already downtown, but nothing like there is now......

Band was the class right after lunch and I ultimately dropped it because I was always skipping it just so I could keep playing video games at the time's square arcade, I was hooked on Gauntlet & Dragon Slayer! I think the reason that I was so skinny in HS was because I used my lunch money on video games! Computers turned into my career so I guess it was good training. (hmmm.... I wonder if I could some how retroactively claim those quarters as an educational expense!)
Jerry's was the best for Pizza, I see the current Pizza place, Savoy's is up for sale. I am about due for a midlife crisis and I was thinking about changing careers and buying it...my Wife talked me down though.
Does anyone remember "Pizza to Go" up on East North Street? That was my 9th grade job.
I worked at the Elks in the late 80's and I vividly recollect seeing Indiana Jones- The Last Crusade as a sneak peak.
Ironically the first movie in a movie theatre that my little girls saw was at the Elks this summer, Horton Hears a Who.

That's neat that you worked at The Elks. Ever have any paranormal encounters?
