Totally agree. You can be top of the search results with a zillion hits a day but your website must still convert eyeballs into inquiries, otherwise it's just ego stroking. A constantly updated blog with timely, relevant info on local activity and trends will get to the top of the search results in smaller markets relatively fast if the content is targeted to the subject matter and locale. AND it will get emails and phone calls AND is free. Fooling Google's algos with SEO optimization is useless if no one ever contacts you. Realtors don't make money from web traffic. We make it from completed transactions.

Best way to check out a website development company is to look at sites they have done and see how they rank.

Not really. Its not the fault of the website development company if the client they are designing for has a useless product, thus a low rank.

I've noticed a lot of real estate agents say that their websites bring them traffic and sales. I question that very seriously. I think most real estate agents are getting the traffic from other sources, then potential clients look them up. That's just a thought. But I haven't seen a high ranking real estate agent's site that the majority of their business is coming from their own site. Are there any out there? and how? Thank you.

They do exist but most agents marketing is so varied that its difficult or impossible to track the source of the lead. Blogs are far more effective, in my opinion, than traditional websites as they more easily share an agent's personality and focus and they, if maintained, offer constantly new and timely information which the search engine spiders and potential clients like. If you are a good knowledgeable agent and can convey that in a blog clients will want you. Remember it ain't about the traffic. It's about the closings. Light traffic with high conversion is way preferable to high traffic with no conversions.
