We get it. You're not the gift-giving type.

Merry Christmas all.

Sorry, a realtor who make 3k or more of a transaction is quite different than my barber who charges $17 for my haircut. There is never a reason to tip a realtor. Your home purchase is tip enough.

Its a truly sad state of American business when you are all scrounging for a set of windchimes from a client who already paid you $3K or more. Grow up already.

I am certainly not confused enough that I would deign to instruct the OP on impropriety for a fairly innocuous desire to express gratitude.
I am certainly not confused that anyone here has indicated any expectation that the OP "owes" anyone in the world a gift, let alone her agent, who is NOT a CarMax salesperson, but is acting as her buyers' agent.
The creation of expectation, or owing a gift is YOUR creation, not the OP's, nor that of any agent here.

At the risk of further devolving the thread into "All About You": What is the source of your negativity towards her?

I have a contract with my wife.
Love, honor, etc. Nowhere is a gift mentioned.
In your world, is it appropriate or inappropriate for me to give her something for Christmas out of appreciation and affection? Or am I confusing the contractual relationship?
Same difference.

I have been following this thread with some interest as I am in the process of buying a new home. I have to say that I am shocked that some realtors on this forum are advocating for gifts! I had thought of writing a nice comment card for my realtor to their boss. In my transaction, my agents will make about 10K-- I didn't think that it was necessary to offer any gifts or tips above that as it seems more than fair compensation for the amount of effort expended, but a lot of realtors on here seem to want more..??? Is this what is being done now? I have to say that though my buyer's agent did a great job and I would happily recommend them, I had thought an additional gift sort of gauche and unessecary.

They took me to a property I already found on Redfin...is that worth a gift? This is all new to me...

No honey, these people on this forums are sensitive souls who are begging for a present. sad but true.

You hired someone to represent you. You bought a place. They get paid. If you write a nice note to their boss, good on you. If not, transaction paid for.

Its depressing to me that people on here are so classless as to advocate for some additional "tip" for doing their job. If you want to recommend them or write a nice laudatory email to their boss, to me, that is above and beyond.

Have you actually read the thread at all? Really?
Clearly, not one agent is advocating for gifts for agents in any way, in any post. Not one of us would ever expect or feel entitled to a gift.

The OP is being belittled and heavily trolled for being generous and considerate, when by all appearances she is a decent and thoughtful person. Bullying is never acceptable.

FWIW, your idea of a note to your agent's boss is a very nice gesture. And, as thoroughly agreed by agents in this thread, a gift is certainly not necessary. Nor is a gift from the heart ever gauche.
Heck, I would love the note as much as any gift. I would actually consider it a gift. See, it is the thought that counts.

Ah. The erroneous basis is revealed. Read up on agent/client relationships vs. salesperson/customer relationships a bit. There is a significant difference between the two relationships, both ethically and legally.

One similarity:
Clients and customers are both allowed to offer gifts to anyone at will.

Anyone here know how to read??!! OP asked for gift suggestions for their agent, NOT for opinions if they should or should not give them a gift.

I am not an agent, but I don't see where anyone is advocating for gifts, get real.
