If you could design a real estate search portal, how would you like it to operate for you?

What are your thoughts?

It would start with zero agent/brokerage advertising and have real-time MLS linkage, not delayed updating designed to drive page views. Wait, I just described the direct MLS search. All 2nd party real estate search portals are merely schemes to make money off agents and consumers. Search the consumer portal of the MLS directly in the area you're looking, not realtor.com, Zillow, trulia or any other of somebody's idea of a real estate website. Nothing beats the MLS.

1. Dream site? National MLS system..... available to the public
2. Next best thing? Zillow/Trulia. Its going to be tough to beat them.

1insider - I agree, nothing beats the MLS on many levels. Do you think the search engine should provide a direct link to the the MLS that offers a public facing search interface or do you think the search engine should provide a direct link to an agent's website that offers MLS search?

399083453 - Looking for the next best thing and it's not Zillow/Trulia. :]

I don't understand your question. What search engine?

OP, are you considering your search portal as an IDX service such as many agents currently offer already, or as an open advertising platform like Zillow or Trulia?

Homesnap beats Zillow and Trulia hands down, IMO.

Rather, Search Portal.

Neither one. I'd like to see direct linkage from the portal to agent websites that offer IDX. What are your thoughts?

I think I don't understand your project.

What would be the purpose?
Who would use it?
How would it support itself, if not an advertising site?
How much would it cost me, and why would I use your portal rather than ads on Zillow or Trulia, or promoting my own IDX function?
