A friend of the family in Texas has inherited property that has a home and apartments on the same land. She wants to know if she can keep the home and sell the apartments,or possibly sell them both separately. Any advice is greatly appreciated. She's not quite sure what she wants to do and wants to think about options before meeting with an agent. Thank you in advance for opinions and advice.

You would probably want to consult a civil engineer about subdividing the property. They can usually handle it from start to finish including taking it before your city or county for approval.

Find an experienced competent Realtor in the local are and they can help you or connect you with the people who can. Or call a local title company and have them research the property. If the structures are already on separate lots you should be able to sell one and keep the other. If everything is on one lot, you'll need to subdivide to carve out the house. Without knowing more, that could either be a minor admin task or impossible due to city restrictions, zoning, etc.

Good luck,

Steve
