Yesterday I got so fed up, the robo calls are truly interfering with my business. Granted, only an irritant, but a real intrusion, messing with my train of thought, unwelcome interruptions. I googled "stopping robocalls" and landed on the FTC website. I recommend anyone wanting to know more about this challenge to visit their website. They are 100% illegal, especially if on the DNC list. (They can be illegal even if not on the list). The problem is the FTC cannot find the callers due to internet technology hiding their identity and location. But these callers can put out millions of calls with minimal expense and effort. So they will only get worse until counter-offensives catch up.
I spoke with our State Representative's office and was told the various carriers have the ability to block these calls, but either will not or make it so difficult to access the blockers. She wasn't kidding! I gave up after about 20 minutes.
But back to the FTC, they are hosting hacker contests (and have been) to find a way to stop these calls - thinking outside the box, just not fast enough.
Many (most?) Of the robocalls and live telephone solicitors aren't technically breaking the FTC laws. Why? Because they aren't SELLING anything. They are offering something for free.
A free security system! A free 3 day, two night vacation! A free analysis for solar power for your house! In the case of that realtor, it was a free market analysis of the MV of my house.
Calls from politicians are exempt from the law, damnit. And non-profits/charities are exempt - but the valid, well run organizations would never stoop to that level. And nobody should be fooled by that caller trying to get money for the police benevolent society.
Kosher - if he is offering free bagels and lox.
Not - if he is offering free matzo crackers and gefilte fish.
If Kosher, then hold out for cream cheese, onion, tomato as your spiff.

if that's the case, more agents should be cold calling without fear. You're not selling anything, you're just asking if they're thinking about moving.
FTC, kiss my arse?! Open up the whitepages and go down the list one by one, DNC be damned.
My partner went to probate and now has her deceased brother's house and is fixing it up. She has gotten all kinds of crappy calls and letters "sorry for your loss now let me sell your house". Tacky and obnoxious.
egh. real estate agents, and business people in general, don't get business by just sitting around being concerned about other people's feelings.
a good number of probate heirs actually do want to sell.
She's fixing it up, so it is a perfect time for contact.
