question about realtor.com listings (listing, interest, check)

I often check realtor.com for new listings in the areas I am interested in. Very often, a brand new listing (as in minutes old) will say pending. What does that mean? That it "sold" before it was listed or ...??

It might be sold before it makes it into the MLS, and Realtor.com draws directly from the MLS.

In my MLS, I have 48 hours to update status, so it is conceivable that a listing may never make it. "Coming Soon" status on MLS, not shown on Realtor.com makes that even more likely.
