What is the preferred method of payment when selling a home for cash...The buyer wants me to accept a money order but I thought a wire transfer was the best way to make the payment..?

A money order would be very unusual--unless you're selling something for very cheap. Most real estate transactions are paid for by either wire transfers or cashier's (bank) checks. Certified checks, at least in my area, don't seem to be used much anymore.

An escrow/title company will require either cashier's check or wire transfer at close of escrow and will not record the deed until the money is in. Any earnest money is paid to the escrow/title company and held until the sale is completed.

Call around to escrow/title companies and inquire about fees and services.

The Texas Real Estate Commission provides standard contract forms.
