Real Estate is not the safest of professions. Every year you hear of Realtors being attacked, robbed and worse. We meet strangers at vacant houses, put strangers in our cars and travel through rough parts of town.

About 6 months ago I received my Concealed Handgun License and regularly carry when I feel I should. Talking to my CPA I write off licensing, range practice, ammo and other associated expenses as a business deduction. Clients never know I carry.

Have any others felt the need to go this route ?

I've had some bad experiences, but haven't considered carrying a gun. I carry a nasty bottle of mace with me when I'm in unfamiliar company or territory.

Life is a dangerous profession.
I don't carry a gun, I don't carry mace but I do wear a mean pair of high heels.

It is dangerous and getting more so every day. I carry pepper spray and I have thought about getting a gun license, but knowing me I would end up shooting myself...lol. I do ask people that I do not know to meet me at the office and make a copy of their license, but I think I am the only one there that does this. I do not do open houses by myself either. It is just best to be cautious.

Haven't thought about that but I won't do open houses, sit at the office alone or meet someone at a house. If a person calls and I make a listing appointment at their house and wasn't sure about who will be there, I would take someone with me.

I haven't felt the need to go the gun route. I did consider for a while getting a stun gun, but was too worried I'd stun myself.

I don't do open houses, and I have a really good "heebie jeebie" meter. Plus, I have a serious "don't give me any crap persona" so I don't think I am the best target.

Shouldn't realtors doing a background check or just look up the name on the public records so you know if a person is a sexual offender, or convicted felon, etc. Same for clients to do, to check out the realtor since my previous realtor was a 3 time convicted felon... Not for violence but i don't want to be the victim of id. theft or my stuff being stolene and what is value to me can be the trash to some one else and the other way around.
On the Record with Greta had recently a realtor who was find murdered on a lot where he was supose to meet a client in a very rural area. So realtor shouldn't risk their life and go with some one else to these homes far out of the city. To bad it ahs come to this.....

When I go into bad neighborhoods for inspections I make sure I go early in the morning while the drugies are still asleep. I also take my 6ft 4 partner along. But as he will be teching more and I have to go on my own I am considering getting a permit to carry.
