Why not go independent?
I know well over 1000 agents across the country, and am on another platform where we all connect and stay current with all issues. I don't need an office manager telling me stuff I learned a few weeks earlier.

I also teach MCE classes and network that way, which is also staying current. I am independent, just under the RE/MAX name. Why spend thousands of dollars to take 900 hours to get my broker's license to have thousands of more dollars of liability ahead of me? My broker can take all the liability they want and let me do what I do.

If you want a good read, you should read the new book called Making the Move by Claudia Wicks. I'm the entire Chapter 15 in the book (I don't get any royalties, bummer), so I know how to run my business and make the most of it.

Wow.
Once licensed, we are "provisional brokers."
No salespeople in North Carolna.
90 more hours and a few hundred bucks makes you a broker here.
Add $100 and 12 hours and you can delare for BIC, hire agents and work as a BIC.

We don't have salespeople here either. Brokers or principal brokers. Although its 40 hours to get your principal broker license here with 3 years supervised experience.

900 hours...now only if we required that to enter real estate...

We have to have 210 classroom hours to become an agent and have to hang our license with a broker.

It's 900 hours (plus two years of experience as an agent) to become a broker. I believe that includes the hours that you have to have to get your license.

We have continuing education requirements, as well, in order to maintain our license.

So the 210 is included in the 900..

Our con ed is 15 hours a year.

Those are probably some of the more stringent classroom requirements I've heard. That's awesome.

Brandon, wish I could help you, but I've always worked for independents.

The variation of requirements from state to state is interesting ...

54 hours = salesperson in Indiana

You need to have your license for one year plus another 54 hours (actually, it's the same exact class that salespersons take) = broker's license

No additional requirements to be principal or managing broker

16 hrs continuing education every two years to renew

I failed to mention two years full time supervision under a BIC.
That only came into effect April Fools's Day, 2006.

We gained a LOT of firms in early 2006, as people rushed to start firms before they had to meet a new "2 year supervised" requirement.

Brandon, I regret that I didn't "clear" you from the mess. You are correct.

99% of all agents don't have the same issues you have. It was to those people I was writing.
