I recently refinanced and two mortgage payoffs didn't appear as paid off. The loans were sold and transferred and were all over the place and someone didn't properly register them.
I retained the lawyer for the refinance ($500) and just got a bill for $172 for his tracking down the two payoffs and registering them properly.
