Locks on the OUTSIDE of the children's rooms doors
Actually, I did this. When my kids were 2-3 and had to go in time out constantly, I got tired of playing the open/shut door game with them so we just reversed the door knobs. I would just lock the door when they opened it up if they were in time out. Cured the door game really quickly.
I just moved in my new home and found all the wooden shutters for the house. I didn't get to do a walk through and the stupid realtor had the water leak fixed in the kitchen during inspection and when I walked in my house the first day, there's a big gapping hole in the kitchen ceiling.
I've since learned from my contractor that my house should have never passed inspection. As a matter of fact, I just received a letter from my insurance company cancelling my homeowner insurance due to the condition of my home.
I really love my home and it's my first home and I got a fantastic deal on it.
The house I live in now was sadly for one little girl who lived here a foreclosure and she didn't want to move and loved this house. She wrote her name all over it on walls and things and in one closet something briefly about the foreclosure not really understanding what it is.
That's kind of heartbreaking, especially as I have a little girl myself.
I moved into a rental once that still had the previous tenants laundry in the dryer! They had also left food in the fridge so I got the impression they left in a hurry.
When I was very young, the house we moved into was previously owned by a elderly vet and had been vacant for several years. Dad found an artillery shell in the basement, (not sure if it was live or not) and several .50 cal rounds. I still remember the police officer who came to retrieve them and just placed them in the back of his crusier. I guess this was all before dedicated bomb squads.
I was told in later years that there was also $15,000 in cash hidden in the basement. The mortgage got paid off real quick.
