Ha! Americans are definitely spoiled when it comes to space (well unless you live in NYC). I love watching House Hunters International on HGTV, especially when someone from Texas decides to relocate for their job to someplace in Europe. I love the expression on the realtor's face. You can tell they are being patient but also are getting annoyed when Miss Texas keeps comparing her 3500 sft house back home to the apartments available to her in Europe. I watched one show where the woman was so obnoxious that all I kept thinking was, "Did ya do an ounce of research first?"

Wow! I didn't see anything quite so crazy during our house hunt as some of you guys did! There were a couple really bizarre additions (like a second bedroom/bathroom/closet added on where you had to walk THROUGH the master bedroom to get there), and your standard wacko paint jobs/kids colored all over the walls features, but nothing like a brick castle bedroom!

I think the weirdest was when we went to an open house in a pretty nice neighborhood. The realtor was hanging out in the kitchen (nicely remodeled) next to a sink full of dirty dishes. I realize the homeowners had kids and were probably in a rush to get out of there, but you'd think the realtor would find 5 minutes to wash the bowls or at least stash them under the sink so that the visitors didn't see them! This was a $450k house!

That same house had a handwritten note taped to the door to the garage, about having locked the cats in the garage, please don't enter. So the homeowner went to all the trouble to have an open house, but the visitors couldn't even see the laundry room/garage. Kind of frustrating.

i know it's funny. some asian/european family rooms are probably the size of the average american's walk-in closet

I just can't stand houses that are in bad taste.

There is no way I'd even consider making an offer on a house unless I could see the entire place. Makes you wonder about what some sellers are thinking ... or not thinking or why a realtor would go along with it.

One house I went to see had pornographic pictures of the lady of the house everywhere. That made me laugh.

Another house I saw had a spa in the family room. That still has me shaking my head. The entire house smelled like Clorox.

Do you ever wonder if people say the same about your house?

When you see only one machine on House Hunters International it is a combo washer/dryer. First it washes then it dries. It's probably not as effective as a full separate washer and dryer but in countries where living spaces are tight, it's a space saver.
