Can't keep or get listings if you offend people either, but thanks for the unsolicited instructions.
I've never lost a listing because I told them they needed to clean their house. In fact they often thank me because "other agents didn't tell us to do those things." It's all in how you say it.
If you are going to write comments on a public forum you can expect a lot of unsolicited instructions/advice/opinions. Kind of the nature of the beast.

Sometimes photos in real estate listings just make me say WHY, WHY, WHY? I've included one that I just saw ... why would this seller think that this very messy room would help sell his/her house?
I have also seen photos of KIDS in real estate photos, as if somehow my looking at a photo of little kids that I have zero interest in would make me buy the house? Really?
(I like kids, well some kids, but strangers' kids on realtor.com? Really?)
I know there's a whole web site of ugly real estate photos, but I can't figure out why people still don't take GREAT photos when they are about to list their house -- especially in this market!
I agree that the photo is inappropriate for a house-selling photo--it's just distracting. But I wouldn't consider that a "very messy room". There's just a lot of paper and whatnot all over a desk.
Pet peeve: Agents who don't bother to put the toilet seat lid down before taking the photo. To me, that says lazy. Plus it looks gross. Would they leave the lid up if they had guests over?
Really? I wouldn't even notice something like that.
If saying that I don't think you/agents are doing their job by not telling people to clean for fear of losing the listing makes me rude and stupid in your eyes, I'm totally okay with that. It is and will always be my opinion. I'll take being genuine and honest with my clients any day over fear of losing a listing.
I'll only hug DMenscha if he wears his face paint and sings to me..anything but Kumbaya.
Hmmmph... He'd have to feed me a cold beer.
