We did change all the locks when we moved in. However, we are apparently too stupid to figure out how to change the codes on the garage doors, so the old owner could still get in if she wanted to. The same goes for the garage door opener at our old house. The remote is programed into the visor of my car, and we are also too stupid to program in the new garage remote, so we could get into our old house too.
a must otherwise the gangbangers that inhabited that house b4 the owner shortsales will do him a favor with one more little party costing u thousands in vandalism uninsured.
Always. When we bought our 2nd house it was an estate sale. At closing the realtor handed us about 10 keys lol. Every adult child, grandchild and great grandchild had a key to Mom/Grandma's house. Then after moving in our two neighbors gave us keys! Who knows how many others had keys to that house. We changed the locks pronto. Our last house we bought about 5 yrs ago. We hired a locksmith and he rekeyed everything for us. Too many doors to swap out locks, now we have one key fit every lock. The cost was pretty cheap.
I've never bought a house from a prior owner. My only house was built new by my parents. All the subcontractors went in and out through the garage door code until the house was finished. None of them ever had a copy of the keys. So I had no need to change the locks. The garage door code, on the other hand, got changed the first day.
