someone is listed as "second in household" and is the homeowner of the residence? does it usually mean the person is married or has someone else living with them?

It sticks in the craw of a lot of people.

That "second in household" phrase sounds like an older version of PeeCee...
a term devised by some committee who didn't really get what they were about.

You know what sticks in MY craw? All over my documents to purchase the house, it said "Blinx Smith, an unmarried woman". Geez, rub in it why don't you! I gave my poor agent an earful, but there was nothing he could do about it. Do single men, when purchasing a house have "John Smith, an unmarried man" on their documents?

"unmarried woman", "single" etc

It all has to do with legalities, Dower Rights. Rights of Dower

Nothing personal.

You gave your agent a "earful", geesh, why is that necessary. He didn't prepare the deed. It never ceases to amaze me that everything is the fault of the r/e agent as the whipping boy.

Yes, it will say Mike P, a single man or unmarried man dependent upon the paperwork.
I know mine did.

we are lucky it doesn't say "spinster"

There is a perceived difference in the value of the phrases "an unmarried man" and "an unmarried woman", even when the designation is legally necessary. I like "unmarried person" myself.

Rant understood. Continue the continuing.

The perceived difference I think is more from the person being called such and not others. I think some women just let it bother them more than it bothers many men.
