You should embrace the fact that professional photographers know more about photography than RealWhores®.

Why are people too cheap to spend a few hundred bucks on photos?

Don't answer. I already know.
Because any twit can point a camera at something and take a snap.
Yes, you can, but not an excellent photo.

Why would they hire a professional photographer? Why?

Crummy photos are good enough to sell most properties, and good photos are good enough to sell the rest.
Why would one spend a few hundred dollars on professional photography when it isn't needed to sell most properties?
Do you guarantee a return on your work?
If the buyer hires you for a few hundred bucks, do they double or triple their money?

This house sold twice in 13 days with three offers each time:
Cary, NC

I shot it.
How much more money would the seller have netted if a pro had shot it?

I do not understand people who do not hire pros.
You are selling a house for $200K-$2M. Spend a small amount to make it look good.
Bravo.

It seems like a reasonable question. What is the return for the expense?

I hate listings with this wide angle shoots... Every single house I went to after looking at these pictures dissapointed me to the point I was done looking around within 2 minutes after entering the house.

Dave, for your information, many realtors are actually quite good at taking photos. Especially ones who have had professional training or simply have a good eye for a shot. Painting everyone with the same broad brush is really not fair. Or professional.

Almost perfectly staged, spotlessly clean, depersonalized AND good photos! Pretty house.

I'm particularly fond of intentionally misleading MLS photos. I'm in an oceanside town and you wouldn't believe how creative listing agents can get with just a sliver of a glimpse of the ocean. They will lean out from a balcony, turn 90 degrees and take a telephoto shot of the ocean between buildings and then further crop out all evidence of the hulking building right next door leaving consumers thinking that the unit is direct ocean. I guess they figure no one will notice when they get to the unit that the view is mostly of Old Man Jones in his boxers and the shuffleboard team's balconies next door.

I would agree that SOME agents should never take shots and always hire a professional. But others take perfectly decent photos. I think it depends on the skill of the agent.

I'm hoping that this is some bizarre auto-correct error?
