Why the trend toward asking people to sign-up for specific listing info or photos?
Rhetorical, I know why, but over here, it just means I move on to another agencies site or Zillow
Inviting people to sign up for specific services is a way of getting leads but inviting people to sign up (Zillow does too) is not the same as requiring people to register before having access to the info on the website. I have invitations but no requirements. After all, if you move on to another website, I've lost you and probably forever.

I agree, as a customer as soon as a required sign-up page comes along... GOOD BYE!
I view it the same way as websites that won't let you click back.
I totally agree. Our office is spending some big bucks on a new uptodate classy (we hope!) website, so one of the agents looks around at other sites to get some ideas etc. She just mentioned this the other day, and I said no way! If I have to give my email or "sign up" in any way, I also move on. It's gotten to where you can't even casually peruse a lot of sites without doing so. No thanks!

That is why Redfin is so popular in the markets it is already in! All brokers should use this kind of system.

Well Redfin has a VOW, not an IDX. It is a custom system created by their company with VC money. Most brokerages don't have that kind of cash to create their own.
