Had my budget permitted, I would prefer a slightly bigger place - maybe around 1000 square feet. Would be nice to have a tiny den/2nd bedroom. Not essential, though.
Sounds nice.

The right size for a single person is so dependent upon the individual's preferences.

My home is 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and 1500 sf with a detached two car garage. It has more than enough space and lots of storage. Right now there are a couple of rooms in it that I use very little or not at all. I have plenty of extra space if I need it for anything.

I sure wouldn't want a home that is any bigger than this, and although I am very content and happy here I recognize that I also would be fine in a home half this size.

You are smart to be buying a house close to work. The lack of a long commute will make a huge difference in quality of life.

I'm single and have about 1500 sq ft, 2 beds, 1.5 baths + an office area (loft). I also have a lot of storage. I have a walk-out basement that would add about 400 sq ft were I to finish it, but I don't need to space and so don't currently feel compelled to (maybe someday for a workout room or something). Anyway, I am finding the size of my current finished space just perfect for me. I don't use my second bedroom much, but it's nice to have the space if I have a guest. Other than that, I use all of my space daily, but don't feel cramped at all. It's just enough, IMO.

Single. 1620sqf. 3 beds 2 bath. 2 car garage. .25 acre. Just the right size for me. Not too much yard to manage and the house is not to big to keep clean.

I bought my first house when I was single -- 1,000 square feet, 3 bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, 1 bath, full basement.

My current home was purchased when I was married -- 1,290 square feet, same number of rooms, finished basement.

I'm widowed, so my next house probably will be smaller -- 1,000 square feet or less, 2 bedrooms, hopefully 2 baths, no basement. Unless I get married again, then who knows.

If I was single, 1200 sq. feet would be fine. I don't get the obsession of single people needing 3000-4000 sq. feet. Just ego stroking.

A single person would only need about 1000 sq ft and a 2/1 that way you have a guest room, Plus it's hard to find a house that has less than 2 bedrooms.

I ended up in a 2 brm 2 bath condo alone as circumstances worked out, and while I love it here, and love living alone, I don't need all this space at all. I don't use most of it. I would be fine with a small 1 brm house. Better still, a log cabin with a wood stove in a remote forest, perhaps in northern Maine.

Location and walkability are more important to me than space. I'd be perfectly content in a 2/2.

Perfect for me would be a 2/1 with about 700-800 sq ft plus attached garage. I'm currently in a 2/1 650 sq ft rental without garage, and it's okay, although a touch more storage would help.

My last place was 1200 sq feet plus full unfinished basement and detached garage plus large amount of accessible attic storage and it just encouraged my pack rat tendencies.
