A death would not be a problem for me. Many deaths might. A murder would be a problem.

Seeing as how my home is over 100 years old, I assume its seen a lot of deaths. The only one I know for sure, neighbors told me a woman delivered a live baby that died here. At the foot of my front steps is what looks like a full body grave marker. That kind of spooked me, but I know it must be some sort of memorial. Its so old, I've never even been able to read the whole thing, its very worn and faded. None of this bothers me and I haven't encountered any ghosts.

If there had been home invasion type murders, it'd scare me. I'd wonder if my home could be targeted again. I'd worry about what made it attractive for that sort of thing. Also, if there had been any blood bath killings, I'd worry about the clean up not being done thoroughly. I sold my parents home in 2010, and the buyers knew both my parents had passed from natural causes in the home, dad in 05'/mom in 09'. It didn't bother them I guess.

I wouldn't buy a home where someone, especially children, had been tortured/murdered. Call me crazy, but I'd feel there could be a lot of painful juju in the house.

I grew up in house that was built in the 1840s, lived in and owned an 1890s house for about a decade, and now live in a house that was built about 1925. I know that both of my maternal grandparents died in the 1890s house. I figure it's likely that people died in the 1840s and 1925 house at some point, but so what?

I wouldn't care generally. My brother and I are currently selling our grandmother's home that she died in (natural causes), and we got several offers. Our listing agent put a note in the agent remarks that the previous owner died in the home, and now that we're in escrow, we are having the buyers sign an addendum acknowledging that they know someone died there, so we're covered. I guess it doesn't bother a lot of people.

This would only bother Americans. In Europe, for example, many generations of people have lived and died in practically all the buildings, which aren't nearly as disposable as they are here. Not to mention land that had battles fought on it and then houses were built there later. Or how about Tokyo? Where do all those people go to die?

If there is I don't want to know about it and I'm not going to ask. As far as I'm concerned this information can be acquired on a 'need to know' basis and I don't need to know. If there's a ghost in the house I know how to get rid of them so I don't care about that part.

If a prospective seller happens to put it in the disclosure (a dumb idea) and it happens to cause the house to sell for less money, well that's another story.
