I'm about to put my HOA to the test. I'm going to build a pool without approval.
Why? Is it just because you don't want to wait for "approval"? I would not try that on something as major as a pool, but I have done a few things under the radar. On every improvement we've done and asked for approval, they've approved it without an issue in our neighborhood. The one thing I did do without approval that they called me on, (widened the driveway by 2' up by the garage) they just wanted the paperwork for their files.
They even allowed our neighbors to extend the pool wall back on the easements to make it look better. Of course this was just a 12" wide curved wall covered in tile, but technically it should have stopped at the edge of the easements.
Somehow, I think Pedro was being a little sarcastic and wasn't serious.
I hope so, but keep in mind that I deal with HOA residents who do just what he proposed (well not pools but fences and other construction) and can't believe it when they get called on it. I'm glad I'm just the governmental liaison to the HOA and not a member.
What's the fine for? Sometimes HOA can go overboard
As previously stated, I'm betting it is for persistent late-payment of HOA fees --
The OP has never responded ... and yet, the thread spins on, as though the HOA is frivolously fining people for having an unwashed car in their driveway.
I stated in the OP that this was a question I had been wondering. Asked and found out! btw, there have never been fines for me.
