Is there a large demand and market for housing that specifically is targeted directly at ex-cons or even ex military? Or is there a lack thereof for people will criminal backgrounds.
I am not talking about half-way houses either. I mean after the ex criminal has gone to the proper rehabilitation channels. People with multiple homicides, sex offenders, criminally insane type as well, and not just petty thieves will be included. Of course landlords will have serious reservations about renting to these people regardless of whether the state says they are fine. So I imagine these people have some hard time finding a place to live.
Is there an organization out there similar to the Military's Veterans Association that will pay all the costs of housing for the people out of prison and looking for a fresh start?
I mention military as well because their Veterans Association will pay, and guarantees the rent. In NYC, you can charge higher than market as long as it is legal rent, and the VA will pay it. Seems like a good idea, but some people are hesitant to rent to even a military vet. My boss is an example of this. We have had several opportunities to rent to veterans, but my boss has this stigma against them of being mentally disturbed by the war. And I guess this is because in order to get those full benefits, one must be declared disabled by the war right?
And then someone wrote a thread about renting to an ex murderer, so it made me think of this question. If there is an association for ex-cons, that guarantees housing, seems like a pretty good business eh.

Brazen, I can't talk to anything about the ex-con topics you discussed in your OP.
As for the veterans groups, I am aware of nothing that provides rent payments that would be through the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, or any other Fed Gov agency. It may be that there are some private organizations that have this type of assistance program but, again, those are likely private charities.
Hope this helps.

Just wanted to say your boss is more mentally disturbed than those vets he thinks are disturbed. 70% of the people I know are former military. One of my tenants is former navy. Seems pretty normal to me. Courteous, tidy, nice, polite has rent on time. Who the hell wants that?

I sincerely wish that the OP had posted TWO SEPARATE threads with this question. Both populations need assistance, but I can't help but feel that the veterans have been insulted in this thread.

To the best of my knowledge, the VA does not guarantee rent for veterans. Disabled vets may qualify for direct disability payments. Most landlords have no issue renting to veterans.
Former inmates do not receive rent guarantees or assistance.
Perhaps you are thinking of Section 8 which is a low income rent subsidy that gives preference to the elderly, disabled and families with children.

You are comparing someone that served in the military potentially getting some assistance, if they are disabled, to someone that choses to rape or murder someone?
Why in the world would someone that choses to rape or murder someone be entitled to a program where their housing is guaranteed? I suppose if you wanted to have a bunch of rentals and post your notices with probation/parole officers as part of a housing program for ex-cons, that would be your choice.

Your post comes across to me as insulting and ignorant. Typical of what I would expect from a nanny-state welfare queen doing his utmost to such up my tax dollars into his latest scam. Thankfully, NJ is a dying state - more people leaving every day. Have fun with your vacancies and declining rent rolls.
I can scarcely believe you are placing military veterans and violent felons in the same sentence, and are such a coward that you are blaming it on your "boss".

I rather doubt that there are many people with multiple homicides on their record out and about looking for housing.

I find it very offensive that you you included convicted felons and veterans in the same sentence, as if they have many similarities.
You do realize that MANY veterans were never in war zones, right? They may have served elsewhere in the world, onboard ships, only stateside, been behind a desk, been in a hospital, been a recruiter, or a recruit trainer, all very important positions in the military, and you compare them to ex-cons? Disgusting.
