We've been waiting a couple of years to buy a house in a specific neighbourhood, one that we didn't think we could get into on our modest budget. When a house in that area came up, we were so excited! Our offer was accepted, and pending the inspection, it's going to be ours.
There are many things we don't specifically like about the house though: the bathrooms are small, the main floor is kind of choppy, the stairs are almost literally in the entrance.
But the location is one we've dreamed about for awhile. The school we want to send our son to when he's older is at the end of our street. His daycare is a 15 minute WALK from the house.
Did we make the right decision? Anyone else buy a house for its location?
I'm tired of typing so I won't go into it but I was faced with a similar decision and I did it, and never looked back. What I don't like I'm going to fix, upgrade, remodel, whatever it takes. I got the bones of my dream house and in a few years it will be fleshed out exactly to my liking.
IMHO you are on the right track. You can change/remodel the house, but you can't move the location. Remember the 3 most important factors in real estate, location, location, location.

LMAO! I wish I had a hundred dollars for every time I typed "location" at CD in the last few weeks.
Yes & with not all the $$$ in the world to add/fix it either. But whenever we drive into the neighborhood, ride our bikes to waterfronts & admire our garden & the neighbors, all is well. Can walk to what's important & THAT'S important. Our large master bedroom offsets the smaller baths & dining room. Don't know if any money can change the profile of the house to allow for porches ... oh well!
My Arizona houses don't have any waterfronts. Well except for golf courses, and none of them actually front the range, although I saw one in my development that did, and had several golf balls in the pool.... As far as I'm concerned a large master bedroom suite can make up for a lot of problems. Think about it. Most people sleep or are at least in bed 8 hours a day, which amounts to one-third of your life at the house spent in the master bedroom.
