My son's room is a bright but not harsh yellow. (Ben Moore Little Angel for anyone that curious! lol!) Now that I'm selling, I like that it's neutral enough for a girl or a boy, as you can vary the bedding and window treatments. Someone may still want to paint, and for all I know, it could end up pink or purple for a little girl. But no one will feel they *have* to paint the way they might if they saw a pink room and they had a boy.
Pink and lilac are very common colors for a little girl's bedroom, always have been. When I was little and mom and dad let me choose my bedroom's color, I chose pink. It had been blue before; they did not repaint the house when they first moved in and they'd just had my brother, so painting wasn't a priority.
When I got older, I painted my bedroom teal. It was still that color when the house was torn down.
I just bought a rental investment, a 4BR house where the secondary bedrooms were pink, yellow and tan. Tan went with the rest of the house. I had the two other bedrooms painted tan to match, at a cost of $450.
Renters do not IMO consider "pink bedrooms" as a plus unless they have a pink princess daughter. AFAIK all renters would consider tan as an okay neutral color they can live with that.
I submit that home buyers would think the same, and that pink bedrooms are a turn-off for most, an item that needs to be corrected at move-in.
An aside, when shopping for my primary home I began my search in Simi Valley CA and I saw a bedroom that was painted totally black. Obviously a teener with an angst problem, perhaps a Goth.
For me it was a "must re-paint" detractor.

You can paint my house neutral after you buy it from me. I don't redecorate for anyone but myself.
I am about to close on a house with a pink master bedroom. It is in a 55+ community and the previous owner was a little old lady. There is also a flowery banner (I don't know what else you would call it) 12 inches high, around the top of the room. I am a male, Vietnam war veteran, and I would like to think kind of macho. But I like the house.
OMG too funny. You must be a man of great vision that you could see past all that.
It's common to have kids' rooms painted in bright colors but yes, it's generally a good idea to go neutral for selling.
In our first place, we painted our master a smoky blue, and I did my son's nursery in a jungle green and brown theme, with bright green walls. It looked very cute all together, but when we moved and put it up for sale once vacant, they just looked like a random blue and green bedrooms. We didn't even have a viewing until we decided to repaint, and got an offer pretty much right away.
