I was watching one of them and they redid the kitchen, living area and Master Bed & bath (which included redoing ALL the wiring in the house and most of the plumbing) and they said the price of your home has gone up $120,000... And we ONLY spent $75,000 to do it.. Which can be true, except they used ALL high end products and I mean high end.... So maybe the house went up that much but if me or you were to do this it would have cost us over $100,000..... NOT $75,000

Yeah, around here at least that flipping only works if you're a builder or in the trades and can do the work yourself. It also seems like knocking the house down and building something huge in its place is much more popular.

I'm sure a lot of the drama is added to the show, but I do believe they are a real couple and they actually do flip houses. The wife actually posts regularly on one of the high volume entertainment websites and provided a lot of details about the show. She basically admitted that the biggest exaggeration is that the chance of a flop being catastrophic to their well being. Their business is actually rather large, and they have a dozen or more houses flipping at any given time. The show just focuses on the one that looks to be the most entertaining. From what I read, "Rehab Addict" is the same way. Nicole Curtis acts like she is a one day away from being broke on the show, but in reality her net worth is in the millions. She also has multiple properties that are in rehab at any given time.

Is free labor written into the TV contracts?

A lot of the shows quote profits that are gross rather than net too.

you'd be surprised how cheap granite and cabinets are here in cali. There are warehouses full of them, and they're cheaply imported from china.

You don't believe the pricing because you are used to seeing Home Depot's ripoff prices on both granite and cabs.

They just barely get the house.

They find some sort of issue they didn't expect (add in trouble sounding music or dramatic pause. Then cut to commercial break).

"Tense" moments of whether or not they will blow their budget or get done on time.

Open house participants mirror exact same statements made by the flippers during their renovations choices.
Flipper: "I think this color granite will work nicely with the subway tile."
Open house participant: "Oh my goodness, I love how the color of granite works with the subway tile."

Will it sell?

It sells and they make a butt load of money.

The wife actually bugs me. Yes, she is pretty but I have a thing about mannerisms. She doesn't really do a lot of talking. Does the thoughtful nod and does the side ways look. The movement of her jaw is very controlled like someone that has had a lot of work done. Fake eyelashes, tan, veneers etc.

The wife on the show has a look that is very typical for the OC; she is average for that area fyi

The reno prices on that and most of the HGTV shows are incredibly low. Maybe we always used the wrong contractors on our home. $10K for a kitchen remodel? On what planet?

I watched a Flipping Vegas episode yesterday, and Scott went over budget by almost 600%. The really don't do their due diligence. Another one, he bought 11 homes in Lake Las Vegas for 380K. Some weren't completed. He failed to check on sewer and water; they weren't connected, and he was still responsible for stuff the developer didn't do. As far as Flip or Flop.....she's hot, hot, hot. Maybe the best looking lady out of all those programs. No way she is standard fare in "Man Diego."

If it's on TV, it's not realistic.

Tarek and Christina are really just middlemen. After 219489321x episodes, their contractor could easily do exactly what they do.

I like the show though.
