we are planning to buy our 1st home in Raleigh, NC. The house we are looking at currently is a under construction. It is near the community entrance, 3rd house from the entrance of a street. It has a private backyard. The other slot in our mind has surrounded by houses (very packed) which has less privacy than this. Would you prefer buying a home near the community entrance? Will it affect the resale value of the house?
How many homes will be on that street, beyond your home? Is the house positioned so that when a vehicle makes the turn onto the street, will their headlights be flashing through your windows?
Corner lots are typically larger, but the amount and speed (noise) of the traffic would be the determining factor, AFAIC.
Consider traffic noise. Is the road the complex is on highly traveled? Being near the entrance you might hear lots of road noise. How close to community services like mail, pool or playground- all of which will also be noisy. How many homes are beyond the entrance? There will probably be two cars for every house driving in.
Are you going to have kids that want to play? Will you be worried as they go to a friend's house? Will your backyard but up against a street?
I much rather be inside the community off of a side street than be on the main street to leave/enter the community. The noise of cars bothers me a lot more than having neighbors.
My last house was the 4th house into the community. The community was only 125 houses, so not much traffic, plus there was one other way in and out that probably about a quarter of the community used.
How many houses are in this community and is there another entrance/exit. I probably would not have bought that house if it was a large community with constant traffic in and out.
Personally, I would NOT want to be near the entrance for the above-stated reasons. The closer you are to an entrance, the more traffic you'll have going by your house.
In my neighborhood, there's a main drive into the subdivision from another road, and then several side streets & cul-de-sacs. The "main" drive gets a LOT of traffic and since it's very straight, people tend to go way too fast especially in the mornings when running late. So be sure to think about that. Even if it doesn't bother you, it could hurt resale should you want or need to move.

Reason: correct spelling
It's VERY convenient to have easy access out of the community.....doing 25 MPH for miles sucks!
