Looking to buy another home in the near future, and found a few listings of properties I like, but they have a pool. I don't want a pool. I don't want to deal with the maintenance, or the liability, of something I'd virtually never use. Before anyone says "You'll change your mind once you have a pool!"...I HAVE already been in houses with pools, and that's how I know I'd virtually never use it myself I'm just not a pool swimmer kind of guy.

That said, if I were to purchase a home with a pool, what would I be looking at as far as cost to remove the thing? I know I likely wouldn't be able to get far with saying the house is worth less with the pool, even though it is to me, but I would want to be prepared for costs if I were to buy that particular property.

I'd imagine that an above ground would be pretty simple and cheap - drain, take down structure, throw away (or offer for free on Craigslist or something similar). It seems like an inground would be similar, though I'd probably want to hire some demo company to break out the concrete and haul away...would I be able to just have a dump truck show up with fill dirt to fill the hole?

Many communities require permits, etc for inground pool demo.

A guy not far from me paid $11,000.. which was an excellent price. I've paid as high as $16K.
