Ew, what kind of friends do you have?! I don't know anyone who just lets their dogs pee all over with impunity. If an accident does ever happen, most of us take the appropriate measures to clean it thoroughly.

What other reason could there be?

Maybe carpet is more popular in certain areas. Maybe it's warmer so it's good in cold areas, In Florida most people have tile or wood or wood laminate floors. Also some people live in areas that are 10 years behind the trends that carpet is passe. Little old ladies still love it.

Perhaps it is Florida that is behind the trend? If little old ladies love it, I'd think, retirement haven that FLA is, carpet would be wildly popular there.

Seriously, in 2009 over 50% of homes had carpet-hardly a SOOOO 1980s fad, as you previously intimated. Home Fads That Are Falling Out of Style

Most new construction I see has a combo with some carpet.

Actually I am from FL and hated tile. I always think of my grandma's house when I think of tile. lol I am not a fan of carpet either but I rather carpet than tile. To each to their own.

Thankfully I have neither and have wood floors.

Buying a house with the old carpet is like buying the seller's old socks and putting them on. Used carpet is filthy with organisms and dirt.....That is why I always stay in hotels/motels that have tile or linoleum such as the Motel 6 chain....

A little OT but dogs are normally not that big a problem. Cats however, different. You cannot remove cat pee no way! Toms spray all over the place and it smells awful. I've actually had to strip the carpets and padding then paint over the subfloor, and prime and paint all mouldings, doors, and lower walls. It's that bad.

Just be glad its just a dog.

I live in North Dakota. Having carpet in my living room and bedroom is awesome.

Some do; some don't; some are neutered and don't spray. Blanket statements are rarely accurate.
