Watching the meter tells them if anything is leaking. If the house is empty, and nothing is leaking, the meter shouldn't move. If it moves, there is a problem, so they turn it back off.

water meters are really sensitive, you can watch the meter move when you flush a toilet or turn on a faucet.
I think they were just under contract. They had not had the inspection done yet.
In any case, they decided to walk. A contractor friend looked at it and said he wouldn't pay $50k for it after the ceiling was drenched like that.
It's a shame, because it was a great house, in immaculate condition, in a great location. The carpets had even been cleaned! It seems like such a waste of such a nice house!
I only posted because it seemed really strange that somebody would turn the water on right before the weekend, and leave the house to flood like that.
They just check the meter? They don't go inside to make sure nothing is leaking?
That's interesting. I thought he was waiting around to make sure the pipes didn't burst.
The water department here turns the water on at the street, but leaves it *off* at the meter, because they're afraid of a house flooding.. many appraisers won't turn the water on at the meter, because they're afraid of flooding a house.. so, sometimes the agent has to turn the water on at the meter for the appraiser/inspector, and shut it off again when they leave.. // then call to get the house re-winterized..
I think the guy smoking outside was the lookout for the pikes stealing the pipes lol
around here - they steal the appliances - and they're downright ballsy about it.
