Let's say you townhouse and your backyard/back-deck has low fence between you and your neighbors. Has anyone use the following to create some privacy. Would that work?

It's made out of fabric. It would quickly be destroyed if you live in an area with rain. If you're crafty, you could probably buy some outdoor fabric and replace it for something that lasts longer.

It wouldn't withstand the elements. How about having a permanent partition built or something that is intended to be used outside? You'll want to check your HOA covenants to ensure they are allowed.

Maybe the HOA bylaw doesn't allow high fences, but failed to say anything about portable fence like the one I posted. What if I paint it with certain coated paint that can withstand elements? Unlike permanent fences, if HOA or someone complain, you just move it indoors.

Why not google outdoor deck privacy screen. There are some like yours. Some are open (don't know why they're listed under privacy) but there are others like the one you picture. You might find some still in your local hardware store or big box bulk type store if they still have their patio setups displayed. If not, order away.

If you get one of those you would have to find one that is able to be used outside, plus it has to withstand winds, otherwise you can get a regular one and bring it in an out when you need it, but again it has to withstand wind. If you were alowed to rig poles and out one of those bamboo shades that might work.

You have the wrong picture of the situation. What you have is a deck and a deck cover. Imagine, the deck and no cover, but just a 3 feet fence between you and your neighbors.

My response: It won't last, it's not meant for outdoors, your bylaws fail to mention this (your assuming but don't know for sure) and if the HOA or someone complain, you just move it indoors.

Call you HOA's ACC and ask first, if you don't want to them fill out an ACC request showing what you plan on doing.

Unless it's made for the elements, it's a waste of money. You don't say what part of the country you are in, but I have used a living screen. It's done with lattice and portable pots with vines and can be quite beautiful and attract hummingbirds, creating hours of enjoyment. You can pot up grapes in deep tubs with supports to grow upon, or, pot up tall bamboo for a green, no flower, divider. The options are beyond endless. A little research will let you know which is quicker and approximate cost. Best of all, almost all are HOA compliant.
