Flat lot on top of hill sloping away in all 4 directions.
Seriously, I have bought my last house on a sloping lot. I like my driveway flat and I don't want any water running toward my house. And I don't like to slip and fall on my A** on a sloping sidewalk when it's icy or frosty out. Builders will build on ANY lot no matter how goofy the house turns out. They assume someone will buy it eventually.
My house is on a hill. I love the view that this affords. The drawback is that my side yard slopes away from the house, slightly at first then pretty dramatically in the final 15 feet or so. I have plans to put in a retaining wall in order to flatten the yard and regain some usable square footage.
Too many variables involved to tell you much here. I'm not picturing a dramatic slope here. I'd be looking in the basement for moisture damage. That should point you in the right direction.
It's a vacant lot and I would build on it. It slopes about six feet from one corner of the house to the other side. I'd like a level lot but this is in a desirable area and there is nothing else available.
Parents lived on a sloped lot. Used to enjoy the rivers that would flow past the house during torrential downpours. House never had water issues though.
I own a flat lot. While I enjoy the use a lot more (changing your oil in a sloped driveway was never fun) I've yet to see what happens during VERY heavy rain. I do have 2 sump pumps though.
Would you take a sloped lot, like many of the other homes are built on around here, for location? It's not uncommon to have a sloped lot around here It's about a 5-6 foot slope, ideal for a basement or basement garage.
We have a sloped backyard toward the back fence (not horrible, but still sloped) and I wish we had a flat lot. However, I'm grateful that we don't have the super-colossal sloped lots that other people in my development have. There are quite a few homes with triple-level decks on the back of the house because the yard is so sloped!
Our house is built on a slab at the top of the slope - we have never had issues with water since it all drains down the hill!
Generally speaking, I prefer a sloped lot for drainage.
Then again..depends on how it is sloped.
You said there's a 6 foot slope...... over what distance?
About 120 feet
