My insurance company basically said they would only cover the deductible up until the master policy deductible. Both policies had the same deductible, $500. I really don't feel like going through the master insurance. The leak has already been repaired. My plumber will send the bill to my neighbor for fixing her toilet and me a separate bill for replacing the damaged section of the pipe. He worked about a day in my unit, plus parts. I am thinking after the standard rate plus parts it will be over $1,000. Then there's the cost to repair the damage which the insurance probably wouldn't cover anyways. I think unless I had a flooded basement with significant water damage it's not worth getting the insurance companies involved.
I don't see how a negligent installation by an owner would be a shared-cost situation? in any case, I don't see this as anything worth fighting over - repair costs are way under the fees demanded by attorneys.
Further, it looks like the plumber you hired haggled up a floor joist pretty badly doing this repair. (You can't just notch a joist like that, especially in that area of the joist - the top & bottom of the joist carry the load).
Notch is completely legal. You can completely notch out 1/4 of the depth if it is close to the wall. That is not even considered a notch Anyhow. Dosent look recent either.
I am going to get some Concrobium 32-fl oz Liquid Mold Remover and spray it inside the walls before it's sealed up for peace of mind.
