OP - perhaps consider renting out your house for a year or two and explore other states that you think you may like as a traveling nurse.

At the end of that period, then you would have had a chance that many don't get to know if you would like a place before you move permanently there.

Well the high deserts in Oregon are hot in the summer but they are cold in the winter.
