Your claim history goes with you no matter where you go. Switching insurance companies is not going to always help you. I don't know about other states but in CA, a house's history of claims is a factor against the rate, even if that claim was made from the previous owner. Every time you switch insurance, they pull your claim history and they will rate you accordingly.
Too many claims in certain time period and Preferred Insurance Companies will black list you and you'll end up with Nonstandard company, which usually have much higher premiums because you are label a high risk. When I was an agent in 2000, this guy called me and was pissed off at his current insurance company that his rate went from $400 a year to $1,200 a year. He filed an $800 theft claim. His insurance company sent him $300 after his $500 ded. My company was a Preferred company and we refused to cover him. I referred him to a Broker and he ended up with a Nonstandard company in the $1200 range.
Home insurance, as a client, you will always have to factor in what you are willing to pay and what you are not willing to pay. Traditionally, insurance was design for huge and devastating loss, not fixing things under $1,000.
in most states the claims follow the property and you . previous claims by others can effect you .
it is a good idea to check your clue report as i mentioned above . like a credit report your clue report may contain errors . that clue report is like your credit history .
it determines what another company will charge you . in some states with certain claims your own company can't raise you but they can drop you . your clue report is a big factor as to what your next company will charge you or even if they will take you .
