I've bought a house and had my kind Realtor leave me a bottle of wine as a housewarming present. That was decades ago.

I'm just curious, after a good transaction with a Realtor is there anything in Realtor ethics that would complicate a client giving them a small token gift in appreciation for a job well done?

I'm talking like a $25 gift card at a popular store or restaurant, not a Mercedes Benz.

There were all kinds of complications in buying our home and our buyer's agent was put through the wringer for nearly three months. After closing, she gave us a new doormat and framed photo of our house, and we gave her a nice gift basket. It was a pleasant way to end the process, I thought.

A thank you card is nice with a referral letter that they can use to get more clients. I'd value that more than anything.
I typically get buyers a gift card for 100-200.00 to a home improvement store. Plus a card and bottle of wine. I give sellers a bottle of wine and thank you card.

How about a small American made car?

That's a nice idea. What should be written on this letter?

No reply as yet although I hate topics where the OP disappears.

Get a thank you card, and write in the card how much you appreciated their help. Also put that you are enclosing a letter of referene that they are free to post on their website or in their file for reference letters.
Then on a spare paper/letter,put something like "I started looking for a house in x, 20xx. I found "agent" thru "x". After meeting with him/her, I was impressed with his/her professionalism and caring attitude. She listened to my wants and needs and sincerely made it her personal mission to find me the home of my dreams.
Upon finding the home, her negotiating skills, advice and guidance throughout the entire process made the home buying experience a smooth and pleasant transaction. I always felt like I was important to her and was kept in the loop throughout the process.
I would highly recommend "x" to anyone wanting to buy a home and looking for an agent who is truly a professional and makes buying a home a pleasure.
Soncerely,
X

We got our realtor a $50 gift card to a restaurant. He gave us a calendar and a magnet (advertising).

He actually made our first home purchase a breeze. We even purchased a HUD foreclosed home that entailed a ton of paperwork and deadlines and more paperwork . . . He did everything for us and he did it all correctly.

The best gift you can send a real estate agent is referrals. I love when old clients send me their friends/relatives/neighbors. Offering to act as a reference is always a plus or providing a reference letter is nice too. I really appreciate it when my clients leave me online reviews. Anything on top of that is just gravy. I've had clients give me all sorts of gift cards, flower arrangements, gift baskets, etc. They're all greatly appreciated but referrals are always my favorite thing to receive.

Um, they always give you the magnet calendar.

I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of the magazine they keep sending me every month. The best kind of recycling is to not kill trees in the first place. My second choice is recycling them.

Always. And when my Realtor refers me to jobbers I give feedback to Realtor, and share my good jobbers with same.

Part of being a good LL is to develop a network of "my people" and make sure they know each other, and know who hooked them up.

There is no better source of new contractors than your Realtor and their colleagues. "F" Angie's list.
