I purchased a home using an agent (called Agent A) who I thought was great. I referred other business to Agent A which has resulted in at least 7 home purchases in the past few years. This year I opted to use a different realtor friend, Agent B to purchase an investment property. There are many realtors in my life as neighbors, friends, PTA moms etc. I chose Agent B because he/she provided so much guidance and education about the process. One month after the purchase, I received an email from Agent A, stating that he/she saw I purchased a property and was concerned that I used someone else. My question: How did this person know that I purchased another property? Is it industry standard to do this?
I think it's a realtor who felt she'd served you well and wonders why you didn't use her again. She has opened herself up for criticism if there was some reason you chose someone else. I would assume she just really wants to learn if there was something she did wrong.
If the truth is you just know a lot of realtors and wanted to give another friend some business, just say that. It's not personal that way. She'll still be disappointed to have lost a good repeat customer, but we all understand that. -- Or we better learn to.
I have a friend going through that right now - she and her husband are splitting up and selling the marital home. We are friends at least a dozen realtors in our area, and she is nervous about selecting one of those friends over another.
I told her to go with her gut, but if it were ME, I'd only meet with realtors I DON'T know and pick from that batch. And then when our friends ask me why I didn't use them, be honest and say I know too many realtors and didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings by picking one over the other, so I went with a completely new person instead.
She said she might let her husband pick the realtor since the realtor friends are all hers, not his.
To the OP, how long ago did you use her to buy the home using Agent A? If it was only a couple years, I could see her being concerned, but if it was 10-15 years ago, I'd say it's not a big deal that you chose to go with someone else. There's no rule that says you HAVE to go with the original realtor!

Seconded. As to your question...are the 2 agents in the same office? Could she have seen your name on a property transfer list? l like to know if I've done anything wrong.
Our first realtor saw in the MLS that the house he helped us buy was up for sale and he reached out to us to basically ask if there was anything wrong with the house and if we were looking to buy again or if we had already found a new place. In our situation we were moving out of state, so it was easy to clear up the air.
I think that the realtor might just want to know if there is anything they did wrong or could be doing better.
How did she know? She knew by keeping track of properties sold in her area. In looking up the price and terms it sold for she could also have seen your name as new owner. Perhaps she had a particular interest in this property and was just curious who bought it. Perhaps it was listed or sold within her company or by an agent friend.
Info can be very easily found even with no effort to focus only on who a buyer was.

It was just weird and felt creepy. This realtor also did it to someone else who I had referred to this particular realtor. So, my concern beyond myself is whether I am referring my recruits to someone who is going to real estate stalk them. I have addressed the issue already but never got the answer as to how the person knew. The property I purchased would have no reason to be on this person's radar and the new realtor worked for a different company. The fact that it happened to two of us made me further suspicious.
This is why i dont use realtors that are friends. I was in the same position but i told my friends flat out that i don't like to do business with friends and thats why i was going in another direction. Mostly to avoid stuff like this.
Either way at this point just be straight up with them.
