This. It is impossible to cover up the smell of cat pee. Impossible.

I've had multiple cats all of my life and have never had this as an issue. The only time one of my cats went outside of the litter box is when she was sick and even then she pooped and didn't pee.

I find it very doubtful the animals have 'ruined' the floors.

Problem solved. Agent spoke to the sellers agent. No hardwood under the carpet, only sub-floor. Seller said the new carpet and padding was put down a week before we looked at the place. Since we didn't notice any visible stains on the carpet I'll hope the pets didn't decide to leave their make after seeing it. Home is now empty and we'll do our walk-through this weekend. Their agent said should we find any stains the sellers will pay for the carpets to be cleaned. Stains or not we have already scheduled someone to come in after the closing to clean the carpets. To me, pets and carpet aren't a good mix no matter if the pets are clean or not.
