I'll leave the "style" question to others and point out that the metal on my shop building (rural) is warrantied for 40 years...

It appears most home owners have a firm stance on hoping no other homeowner would add something to visually downgrade the neighborhood.
If there were an HOA there would either be a rule to have no metal garage, or there would be a vote..
Let's say the residents voted against the garage as they have done on this post.

The reason is aesthetics.
Aesthetics - In sociology, taste is an individual's personal and cultural patterns of choice and preference. Taste is drawing distinctions between things such as styles, manners, consumer goods, and works of art and relating to these. Social inquiry of taste is about the human ability to judge what is beautiful, good, and proper.

As mentioned, a lot of farms have metal buildings and no one wants their neighborhood to have that vibe.

Sense and sensibility.

I would say I'm just the opposite... love country life even if on an acre or two.

The cookie cutter 5' side setback and duet homes they build around here have the vibe I don't like...

No lie... visited my friends son and his family... narrow three story and less than 10' away is a direct view to the other homes master bedroom... it's on the second floor so no fence to screen.

I'm glad we still have choices that account for various tastes...

You are right... if it is important a person would do best to seek a neighborhood with strict CC&Rs.
