I love the idea of a big deck that takes up a lot of the backyard - less yard maintenance. But... the deck itself is a maintenance issue. You need to do some work to keep it looking good and in good repair. I decided to go with a concrete patio instead. But if money wasn't an issue to hire someone else to do the work, sure I'd have opted for a deck. In theory, I love a wooden deck, or if I were 20-30 years younger, I would have taken on the work myself. But... as it turns out, Bette Davis was right - it sucks getting old! There's a season for everything. And deck maintenance is not part of my current "season".
