My condo has localized fire alarms (only go off in the unit) and if it is bad enough, the building unit goes off (direct feed to fire department).

Thank you everyone. This is all very reassuring to hear. I'll just do a lot of questioning at our next place, after dealing with it here it's become a top 3 concern!

That's exactly how ours work too! I've set off the localized one twice when cooking steaks. Setting off the building wide one would be my nightmare!

Lol I just responded to a fire call where a sprinkler head went off. 3 in of water in about 8 minutes. Place is done for. Place fills up fast when it’s 150 psi pushing
