Evidently it is a practice to name your home. I found a few links, perhaps some ideas from sign makers will trigger a good name for you OP. A neighbor told me years ago that our home was called the Doll House.....never really thought to actually make a sign though maybe I'll rethink this now.
have you moved yet, and you live in the house? If not, then I'd thank my friends for their kindness, and ask them to hold off until you've lived there, at least a couple of weeks. The name you feel is appropriate may just come to you.
We've lived here since July, but you make a good point. It's wise to try out a name for a few weeks, first, just to make sure it sticks before we put it on a sign.
It this typical where you live? Small private houses having a name?
I wouldn't say it's common, but it's not all that unusual, either. Maybe it's because I live in Williamsburg, VA. When you live next to a restored colonial village having a house with a name seems like a natural thing to do (even in the newer neighborhoods. What can I say, life in the Burg is like that.)
I've seen a few similar signs nearby, although they're just for fun. It's not like people use house names to get mail or anything like that. At the end of my street there's a house named "Brigadoon." Nearby I've seen signs for "Green Shutters," an "Owl's Nest" and "Pebble Beach" LOL.
A lot of the people who move here are retirees and that may explain it, too. Retirees have time for whimsy, plus people who retire to places like Williamsburg tend to be people who appreciate such things.
Or if you'd like a more off the wall explanation, if you live here you're a Burger. So maybe that's why we like a little cheese? (And we enjoy it with relish, LOL)
shortened to Wonomoco
Make up a fake native language and meaning.
Wonomoco is my favorite so far. It's fun to say, it's unique, but most of all I like the idea of a name with a secret meaning. Kind of goes with a house that has a secret door.
We also like Figgy's Forest, Fox Hollow and Oro Viejo. Decisions, decisions....
I knew you guys would come up with some great ideas! They're all good.
