HOA rule is the closest thing to Nazi government that exists in the US.

You seem to be painting the entire industry with the same broad brush, hardly fair.

Are there any HOAs with "hands-off" manners of ruling, any "live and let live" HOAs? Highly doubtful although possible.

I had a good friend live in a community nearby with an HOA that only had voluntary monthly dues for landscaping (mowing of of common areas) and nothing else.

We don't get any snow here; however, there are large, deciduous trees with many leaves that fall onto the streets and clog the gutters, which can be quite a problem. We have street sweepers (large, noisy vehicles) that come by to clear the street. It would be very beneficial for residents not to park on the street when the sweepers are expected. Unfortunately, though, some residents don't move their cars, and that means that the streets are not fully cleared of the leaves.

Yes if you adhere to the Covenants, Bylaw, Rules, etc. you will never hear from you HOA. If you do not, you should be taken to task.

I prefer that one torquoise house in the neighborhood as opposed to living in an
HOA. I’ll take care of my own yard, thank you very much.

Then the HOA committee gets taken over by a bunch of retirees who only like specific flowers. They come up with a rule that only allow those very specific flowers in people's yards. If people don't agree, they foreclose their homes.

Or the retirees hate to see cars from 10pm to 6am, so they come up with a rule that says no car can be visible from 10pm to 6am. If you can't fit more than 2 cars in your garage, well that's too bad.

No one here is saying all HOAs are taken over by control freaks and busybodies. But the potential is always there for them to come up with crazy rules and heartlessly auction off your paid-for house for $5k.

We had a loose one and one that was stricter. The stricter one was obsessed w/ petty stuff--had to have your 2 trees in front, couldn't leave garbage can out past day it was emptied, couldn't paint your door a color other than what they wanted, etc.,--stuff like that. The looser one was only concerned w/ everyone's outside properties looking "pretty good," with no junk around, nothing else.
