We bought our home for under $50K in SW TN. Our property taxes began at $262 - YEARLY and are now below $250. We have 4 acres, added a pool, deck, and recently gutted and rebuilt the bathroom; we put a new metal roof on, added another room, installed a back-up generator and a safeshed (tornado shelter). The 3 bedrooms are small, but we have 3 outbuildings for storage. A friend from the north east is thinking of retiring here and I've been looking, there is still a decent market for $50K homes in this area. We took our time making the improvements but we're comfortable.
If you're looking for good schools, this is not the area. If you're willing to drive 30-45 minutes' commute, you can find decent jobs.
How much is your property insurance per year. I'm in Florida and mine is high, I would think it's also high in a tornado area.
Trust me that property taxes in FL are minimal compared to many other states. It does differ county by county and city by city and that is the same nationwide.
Insurance not taxes. Many insurance companies have fled Florida after all the hurricane losses which reduces competition and increases rates.
Finding a house under $50k is easy. Finding a house for $50k in a low crime area with good schools and close to good jobs, not so much. And it most likely won't be move in ready!
Really ?? I don't think North Central Florida is an undesirable location. How do you feel otherwise ??
That's just it. I don't think NE Ohio is an undesirable location, either. But, "they" (whoever "they" are) have decided that it's not desirable, regardless of whether you or I like it, or not.
That last one is in a very convenient location for work. Just saying, there is inventory.

But look at picture 26. I'm not sure if that's a sauna or a holding cell for abductees.
