I'll be different.... another idea is to get some samples of carpets you'd be willing to buy... leave them in the house and tell them if they make an offer that is accepted they can choose the carpet color.

FWIW, it's not all that unusual for carpets to be removed in older homes.

Order the carpet yourself and have it installed. Tell the insurance company to send you a check for the claim
