we 'were' moving to be closer to family but because of the poor hosing market we've decided instead to enjoy our beautiful home here in Paradise and take extended vacations to see our loved ones.

We're considering putting our home of 12 years on the market and moving to a recently purchased older home that we've been fixing up.

Reason: Downsize. Invest the money from the sale of our current home. Eventually retire.

we are trying to downsize to a smaller home with a larger lot. The downside after talking about it all weekend, we love our current home, thought we'd save a bunch of money but after paying off a HELOC (which will be awesome) and the fact that rates have gone up, our payment will not really be much different. So now we are debating it. And, we can't find anything we like to buy!!!!?!!!!??!!!

Sounds like this may not be the greatest time to make that move! We have kind of been in the same thought process as you!
