Cheap and safe are relative terms so I figured I’d leave it vague to get a wide range of responses and leave room for discussion.

Cheap (low cost) is almost always directly related to prevailing wage rates.
Lower costs almost always equals lower incomes; at least at the median.

Safe is almost always directly related to your surroundings...
and who else inhabits them.

All of which leads back to Q's about what else you want or need in this new location.
Make that list and then seek out those features.

I think you can probably find cheap and safe within a 2 hour drive of wherever you are right now.

Try that first. If it doesn't work, tell us what else you're looking for.

Safe usually means small population, few amenities, low paying jobs.

Many places are safe because there aren't that many people living there.
